How to use these geography quiz questions

Try the questions before opening their answers. The first round asks you to connect places with countries; the second asks you to connect a different set of places with continents. Each answer links to an atlas entry so you can explore the location and context.

For a quiz night, have a host read the questions and award one point per correct answer. This is an untimed, 24-point place-geography round, not a comprehensive measure of geography knowledge. The set does not cover capitals, flags or every country.

A note about continents and place names

This set uses the six inhabited-continent groupings in Terravel’s atlas: Africa, Asia, Europe, North America, South America and Oceania. Antarctica is not part of this question set. Oceania is the regional label here; some school systems instead use Australia as a continent name.

Country and continent answers refer to the named place, rather than every place with a similar name. Read the linked atlas entry if you want its coordinates or need to check an ambiguous name. For example, the Blue Mountains entry here refers to the Australian landscape.

Turn a missed answer into your next discovery

Choose three answers you missed. Read their atlas entries, find the country on a map and write one detail beside each name. Then have someone ask those three questions again without showing you the answer choices.

If you prefer immediate scoring, play the 12-question world quiz. For a narrower session, choose a continent quiz. For app recommendations by task, see our geography quiz app comparison.
